On the 19th October Christine Stokes attended ISSOTL10 (International Society for the Scholarship of Teaching & Learning) in Liverpool. Her story: “The event attracted people from Universities from America, Australia, Canada to name just a few. The day consisted of poster displays which a poster publishing the UCLAN’s Undergraduate Research Society which I am the chair of. Being the first student led undergraduate research society in the UK, the poster generated interest including from one of the organisers of the National Conference for Undergraduate Research in America who complimented me on my work for the society and further complemented me by saying I was a very good student. Other than the posters, we listened to speakers who generated questions for discussion between tables. I was pleased to find that my opinions were respected and people were interested in what I had to say, so much so that one person believed an improvement would be to have more students involved in the event and another said I had inspired her to become more involved with the students to learn how they feel. Furthermore, when I told of my experience of research within the computational physics group they were surprised to hear how much experience I have received and support I have received to be involved in research from the group.”
