Dr Attilio Vargiu from the Universita’ di Cagliari, Italy will give a seminar at the School of Mathematics and Physics on Monday 18th of April 2016 at 12 pm (room ENG209 in the Engineering Hub, building 13 on the university map). Please join us to follow this interesting talk.
Computational studies on efflux pumps of the Resistance-Nodulation-cell Division superfamily
In this talk I will give a summary of the work performed in our lab on the efflux pump AcrAB-TolC of the Resistance-Nodulation-cell Division superfamily, the major efflux pump in E. coli and other bacteria. After a brief general introduction to the subject of antibiotic resistance and on the role of efflux pumps thereon, I will focus on the RND transporter AcrB, presenting our work on the mechanisms of uptake, recognition and extrusion of substrates by this protein, as well as on the possible routes to inhibition investigated by computational techniques.
